Sonbhadra Court Imposes Life Sentence on Father for Daughter's Rape Under POCSO Act
In a landmark judgment delivering swift justice, a Special POCSO Act court in Sonbhadra district has sentenced a 33-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment for the heinous crime of raping his own 15-year-old daughter, resulting in her pregnancy. The court of Special Judge Amit Veer Singh pronounced the verdict on Thursday, condemning the father to remain in prison for the entirety of his natural life.
Swift Judicial Process and Substantial Fine
The court demonstrated remarkable expediency, reaching this conclusive verdict within a mere 35 days after charges were formally framed on January 7. In addition to the life sentence, the judge imposed a substantial fine of Rs 1.50 lakh on the convicted individual. The court characterized the offense as exceptionally grave, warranting the most severe punishment available under the law.
Case Background and Police Investigation
The tragic case came to light when the victim's maternal uncle, a resident of the Kon police station area, filed an official complaint at Chopan police station on October 27, 2025. The complaint detailed that the victim's mother had passed away in March 2025. Following her death, the 15-year-old girl and her two brothers continued to reside with their father in a village under the Chopan police station jurisdiction.
The complaint alleged that the biological father sexually assaulted his daughter in April 2025. Acting promptly on this information, Chopan police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused father under multiple stringent sections:
- Section 64(2)F and 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
- Section 3/4(2) and 5N/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act
The investigating officer conducted a thorough and impartial investigation, gathering sufficient evidence to file a chargesheet. The court subsequently framed formal charges against the accused on January 7, 2026.
Court Proceedings and Witness Testimonies
During the trial, the court meticulously examined all aspects of the case. This included listening to detailed arguments presented by advocates representing both the prosecution and the defense. The judicial process also involved recording statements from nine key witnesses who provided crucial testimony.
After a comprehensive review of the entire case file and all presented evidence, Special Judge Amit Veer Singh found the father guilty beyond reasonable doubt. The court then delivered its stern sentence, imposing rigorous life imprisonment and the financial penalty.
Police Operation and Broader Implications
Circle Officer (City) Randheer Mishra highlighted that this conviction was achieved as part of the ongoing 'Operation Conviction' campaign. This initiative focuses on taking effective action against crimes targeting women and children while ensuring the delivery of swift justice within the district.
Mishra emphasized that the police department conducted a high-quality, unbiased, and robust investigation, which was followed by effective prosecution in the courtroom. This coordinated effort between law enforcement and the judiciary proved instrumental in securing this conviction.
This verdict represents a significant achievement in providing prompt justice to the victim of a horrific crime. Furthermore, it establishes a powerful societal message that individuals accused of crimes against women and children will not evade the stringent clutches of the law. The judgment reinforces the legal system's commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of society and holding perpetrators accountable through expedited judicial processes.
