Mumbai: An FIR was registered against the principals of 14 schools in Malwani by the local police after a complaint was given by the BMC’s private primary schools department that the institutions were illegal.
BMC Investigation Reveals Illegal Schools
As per the complaint, the BMC found a total of 164 primary schools in Mumbai in 2025-26 that were illegal. Of these, 14 were located in Malwani. The BMC sent notices to the principals of these 14 schools in March 2026 and asked them to give an explanation within a week as to why the schools should not be shut down. But the principals did not get back and continued to operate the schools.
Legal Action Taken
Subsequently, a list of the 14 schools with their names and addresses was communicated to the Malwani police along with a copy of the notices served to them. The FIR was then registered.
