Kolhapur: Five people, including an office bearer of the Shiv Sena (UBT), died over the last two days in four separate accidents in Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur districts.
Accident in Padalwadi village
On Friday morning, in Kolhapur’s Padalwadi village on the road to Panhala, Vandana Patil (41) and her husband, Ananda Patil, of Donoli in Shahuwadi tehsil were travelling on a two-wheeler to Kolhapur. A dumper coming from the Kolhapur side collided with their vehicle. The locals rushed to help the couple, but Vandana died on the spot. Patil suffered injuries and was rushed to Kolhapur for treatment. Police said the dumper driver fled immediately. CCTV camera footage is being checked.
Accident at Ichalkaranji bus stand
On Thursday, a car drove into the Ichalkaranji bus stand and dashed several people. It stopped after hitting a parked bus. Nanda Vasant Koli (55) of Kumbhoj village in Hatkanangle tehsil was waiting with her daughter for a bus to return to their village. The daughter told the police that her mother had recently undergone a bypass surgery. They were returning from her routine check up. Three people were injured in the accident. The driver fled the spot, while the locals broke the windshields.
Drunk tempo driver kills two in Miraj
A drunk tempo driver hit two bikes wherein two people died on the spot on Thursday evening at Miraj’s Erandoli. The deceased were identified as Khwaja Ali Mirajkar (37) and Laxman Satish Hakke (60). The locals beat the driver and handed him over to the police.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader dies in Solapur
Meanwhile, at 4pm on Thursday, Tukarama Damu Bhojane (60) of Nandur village in Mangalwedha tehsil of Solapur district was returning from Sangola on his motorcycle following some election-related work. He came under the rear wheels of a trailer. Bhojane was Sangola taluka president of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and a loyalist of Balasaheb Thackeray and Uddhav for four decades.
