GURGAON/LUCKNOW: Five people, including four Uttar Pradesh Police personnel and a kidnapping complainant, died on Tuesday morning when their Scorpio vehicle crashed into a truck on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Nuh district. The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m., approximately one kilometer before the Dhulawat toll plaza, as the police team was heading to raid a suspected hideout.
Details of the Crash
Police stated that the SUV was traveling at high speed when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle, lost control, and rammed into a parked truck. The impact was so severe that the front of the Scorpio was crushed, resulting in the instant death of all five occupants. Rescue teams took nearly an hour to extricate the bodies after cutting open the mangled vehicle.
Victims Identified
The deceased police personnel were identified as Sub-Inspectors Mohit Kumar Yadav (32) and Satyabhan Singh (59), and Constables Ashok Kumar (28) and Pradeep Kumar (27), all posted at Jalaun police station. The fifth victim was Amreek Singh (35), a resident of Jalaun who had lodged a kidnapping complaint and was accompanying the team to guide them to the hideout. Police sources revealed that the Scorpio belonged to Amreek, and he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Background of the Case
The police team was en route to rescue Amreek's cousin, Bijender Singh, who was allegedly kidnapped from an agricultural field on Monday morning. In the First Information Report (FIR) filed in Jalaun, Amreek claimed that four unidentified men abducted Bijender due to a dispute over farmland taken on lease for cultivation. The case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 140(1) (abduction) and 305 (theft). The Jalaun police team was working in coordination with the Special Operations Group (SOG).
Eyewitness Account
Passersby reported that the truck had been parked on the roadside for some time, and its driver had gone to a nearby kiosk when the Scorpio collided with it. After the collision, the truck driver fled the scene.
Rescue and Investigation
Teams from Sadar Tauru police station arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations. Station House Officer (SHO) Shishram stated that considerable effort and time were required to extricate the bodies using rescue equipment. Ambulances were called, and the bodies were sent to a hospital in Nuh for autopsy. Traffic on the expressway was briefly affected during the operation.
DSP Abhimanyu Lohan said, "We began proceedings as soon as we reached the spot. A complaint is awaited, after which further legal action will follow. Prima facie, speeding and the parking of the truck on the expressway led to the accident." Vehicles are prohibited from parking along expressways, as designated parking bays are provided.
Police are tracing the truck driver and investigating whether the parked vehicle had proper warning signs or hazard indicators. Once a complaint is received, an FIR will be registered under relevant sections dealing with causing death by negligence, rash and negligent driving, and endangering life, the DSP added.
Government Response
In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences over the deaths and directed officials to coordinate with the Haryana government to ensure the bodies are transported to their families at the earliest. Officials confirmed that the UP government is taking all necessary steps to provide assistance to the bereaved families.
