Police in Ranchi have made four arrests in connection with a shocking incident of arson on National Highway-20. The suspects allegedly set a passenger bus on fire after it struck a girl crossing the road late Wednesday night.
Arrests Made in Bus Torching Case
Authorities took swift action following the violent episode near Ormanjhi police station. The arrested individuals are Uday Kumar Ganjhu, Priyanshu Sharma, Salman Alam, and Damodar Karmali. All four hail from Chuttupalu and now face serious charges.
Sequence of Events Leading to Arrest
Bus owner Asrar Ansari filed a formal complaint with local police. He stated his bus was traveling from Ranchi to Siliguri when the accident occurred. After hitting the pedestrian, the driver continued forward briefly.
This is when matters escalated dramatically. According to the complaint, the accused mobilized local residents. They first instructed passengers to disembark from the vehicle. Then they proceeded to set the bus ablaze in a dangerous act of vigilante justice.
The violence didn't stop with property damage. Both the bus driver and his helper suffered physical assaults during the chaotic scene. Police confirmed the injured girl received medical attention and is now in stable condition.
Police Investigation and Judicial Process
Ormanjhi Police Station in-charge Alok Singh provided details about the official response. "We registered an FIR under provisions related to arson and assault," Singh explained. "A special team formed on SP Rural Praveen Pushkar's direction worked to apprehend those responsible."
The four primary suspects faced judicial custody on Friday. Authorities forwarded them directly to jail following their arrest. Meanwhile, police continue active raids to locate additional individuals involved in the incident.
This case highlights concerning trends of mob justice on Indian highways. While road accidents understandably provoke strong emotions, taking law into one's own hands creates further danger. The police response demonstrates their commitment to maintaining order even in volatile situations.
