Dhanbad: Four men were arrested for attempting to extort Rs 1 crore from a businessman by posing as associates of gangster Prince Khan, police said on Thursday.

Details of the complaint

SP (City) Ritwik Srivastava stated that on May 6, businessman Ghulam Ansari filed a written complaint at the Barwadda police station, alleging that unidentified criminals demanded Rs 1 crore over the phone and threatened to kill him if he failed to comply.

Investigation and arrests

During the subsequent investigation, the callers were traced through their phone numbers and location analysis. A special team was formed to carry out raids, leading to the arrest of four individuals. The accused were identified as Devanand Singh (28), Balak Kumar Das (27), Mohammad Nasir Ansari (47), and Surendra Kumar Mahto (30).

“During interrogation, the accused confessed that they had used the name of Prince Khan to extort money not only from Ansari but also from the operator of a private hospital in Dhanbad,” Srivastava said.

Recovery and ongoing probe

Police recovered two mobile phones allegedly used in the crime. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to uncover the entire network and identify other persons involved in the extortion racket.
