Trichy: Four individuals sustained injuries after a passenger autorickshaw collided with a stationary container lorry near Srirangam in Trichy on Monday. The incident occurred when the autorickshaw driver, identified as K Ponnaian (49), from Reddymangudi in Lalgudi, was transporting passengers from the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple to No. 1 Tollgate.
Details of the Accident
The accident took place on Panjakarai Road, where the autorickshaw struck the rear of a parked container lorry. The impact left all four occupants seriously injured. The passengers were identified as S Jagadeeswari (54), S Matheswaran (24), and M Nithra (10), all from Tambaram in Chennai.
Rescue and Medical Response
Local residents promptly responded to the scene, rescuing the victims from the damaged vehicle. They were then rushed to Srirangam Government Hospital for medical treatment. The condition of the injured is reported to be stable.
Legal Action
The Traffic North Police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to rash driving and endangering life. The autorickshaw has been seized as part of the investigation. Authorities are conducting further inquiries to determine the exact cause of the collision.
