Four injured in chain-reaction crash near IFFCO Chowk

Gurgaon: Four people, including a car driver and three passengers, sustained injuries after a trailer truck triggered a chain-reaction collision involving three vehicles near the IFFCO Chowk flyover on Thursday. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident, police said.

Accident Details

According to a complaint filed by Pawan Sharma, a resident of Sector 5, the accident occurred around 2:30 am on the Delhi-Jaipur carriageway near IFFCO Chowk. Sharma, who works as a driver, was driving a Swift Dzire attached to a private company in Sector 48 and was transporting three employees — Naunidh, Rifaqat, and Wasib — from the city to Shahdara in Delhi.

Police said a trailer truck bearing registration number HR55AC0744, allegedly being driven at high speed, rammed a canter truck traveling ahead of it. The impact caused the canter to cross the road divider and collide with Sharma’s car traveling on the opposite carriageway. A Thar SUV traveling behind Sharma’s vehicle was also involved in the collision.

Victim's Account

Sharma told TOI, “We left the company around 2:15 am and reached near the IFFCO Chowk flyover within 15 minutes. I was heading towards Delhi when a canter truck on the opposite carriageway suddenly crossed the divider and struck the right side of my car. After that, everything went blank. I regained consciousness in pain. God saved all of us that day.”

Medical Response

Passers-by shifted the injured to the civil hospital. The three passengers were later admitted to Medanta Hospital by company officials. Sharma, who suffered a fracture in his left arm and multiple injuries to his head and near his eye, was admitted to a private hospital. Police said all four victims were stable.

Police Action

A team from DLF Phase-II police station reached Medanta Hospital and collected the medico-legal case reports of the injured. Subsequently, Sharma submitted a written complaint along with his medical documents, alleging that the accident occurred due to the rash and negligent driving of the trailer truck driver.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under sections 281 (rash driving), 125(a) (endangering human life or personal safety by a rash or negligent act causing hurt), and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at DLF Phase-II police station. Police said efforts are underway to identify and trace the truck driver.
