Fresh FIR Filed Against Abhishek Banerjee's PA
A fresh First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s personal assistant, Sumit Roy, in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam. The FIR was lodged at Debra Police Station on June 16, according to officials.
The development comes as police continue a manhunt for Roy, who is already facing a non-bailable arrest warrant from the Midnapore district court and a lookout circular issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in a separate land scam case.
Complaint Details: Rs 3.5 Lakh Per Job Demanded
According to the complaint filed by Prosenjit Roy, former Midnapore MLA Sujoy Hazra demanded Rs 3.5 lakh per candidate between June 2023 and January 2026 to secure 12 government positions. Hazra is alleged to have pocketed an initial payment of Rs 12 lakh from job seekers.
The complainant alleged that Hazra introduced the victims to an accomplice, Ashik Kazi, claiming he was a government employee posted at Nabanna, the state secretariat. Kazi reportedly escorted the candidates to government buildings—Khadya Bhavan and Bikash Bhavan—where fake medical examinations were conducted.
Fake Appointment Letters and Threats
When the promised jobs failed to materialize, Kazi allegedly demanded more money, claiming it was meant for Abhishek Banerjee’s personal assistant. The job hopefuls were eventually given color photocopies of forged appointment letters, according to the complaint.
When the victims demanded their money back, they were allegedly threatened with false lawsuits. The link between Sumit Roy and former MLA Sujoy Hazra emerged during the interrogation of Hazra, who was remanded in jail custody last Saturday in connection with a land scam case being handled by Salboni police.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cash-for-jobs scam, with Sumit Roy remaining at large. The fresh FIR adds to the legal troubles for the TMC leader's aide, who is already wanted in a land scam case.
