Violent Clash Among Gangsters in Burail Jail Leaves One Seriously Injured
Three gangsters engaged in a violent clash inside the factory area of Burail Jail in Chandigarh, leaving one inmate with serious injuries. The incident occurred on January 7, 2026, around 11.20 am, prompting immediate intervention by jail staff.
Police Register Case After Jail Staff Intervention
Police registered a criminal case at Sector 49 police station on Friday, based on a complaint from jail warden Tarun. The warden was on duty in the factory area when the three inmates suddenly ran towards the area, picked up iron rods, and began attacking each other.
During the scuffle, inmate Kailash Chauhan suffered serious injuries. He was quickly shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32 for treatment. The other two inmates involved are Amritpal Singh, also known as Gurjar, and Manjeet, alias Mota.
Details of the Incident and Inmates' Backgrounds
According to police sources, the inmates attacked each other with iron rods. When jail wardens tried to intervene and stop the fight, the inmates allegedly pushed and manhandled the staff. All three inmates were later lodged in the same barrack after being separated.
Kailash Chauhan, a native of Faridabad, is an alleged gangster arrested in connection with a conspiracy to murder gangster Bhupi Rana. Manjeet, alias Mota Rahul, is allegedly involved in the Sonu Shah murder case of Burail. Amritpal Singh, alias Gurjar, was arrested earlier for allegedly opening fire at the residence of businessman Kuldeep Singh Makkar in Sector 5.
Investigation Underway to Examine Security Lapses
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events. Authorities are also examining how the inmates gained access to iron rods inside the jail premises. Jail security arrangements and possible lapses are being closely reviewed to prevent such incidents in the future.
