In a shocking incident rooted in superstition, Garhwa police have arrested three individuals for the cold-blooded murder of a man from a neighbouring district. The crime, which occurred on Saturday within the limits of the Bhawnathpur police station, was allegedly motivated by accusations of witchcraft and spirit possession.
The Arrests and Seizure
Following a swift investigation, law enforcement officials took into custody three persons: Sita Rajwar, Manoj Rajwar, and Manmati Kunwar. The police have recovered significant evidence from the accused, including two country-made pistols, two cartridges of .315 bore, one mobile phone, and a motorcycle. These items are believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
A Motive Steeped in Superstition
According to Banshidhar Nagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satyendra Narayan Singh, the tragic sequence of events began with a personal loss. Sita Rajwar, a resident of Untari Road in Palamu district, had recently lost her daughter. It was then that Manmati Kunwar from Singhitali village in Garhwa allegedly told Sita that her daughter's death was not natural.
"Manmati told Sita that a person living in the south direction had killed her daughter with the help of a spirit," explained SDPO Singh. Acting on this statement and driven by suspicion, Sita reportedly devised a plan to target the individual she believed responsible.
The Fatal Attack
The victim has been identified as Rukhi Rajwar, a native of the Pandu police station area in Palamu district. Based on the suspicion planted by Manmati, Sita Rajwar allegedly conspired to murder Rukhi. Police state that Sita, along with her brother-in-law Manoj Rajwar, carried out the plan and shot Rukhi dead. The shooting took place on Saturday, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The case highlights the grim consequences of deep-rooted superstitions in certain regions. The Garhwa police's prompt action led to the quick apprehension of the suspects, preventing any potential escalation.
