HDMC Special Drive Targets Littering in Dharwad
The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has intensified its crackdown on littering, clearing more than 50 garbage dumping hotspots in Dharwad over the past week as part of a special enforcement drive. The initiative aims to penalize residents and businesses who illegally dump waste in public spaces.
Fines Imposed to Deter Repeat Offenses
According to HDMC officials, the drive has resulted in the imposition of fines on violators caught littering in identified black spots. The corporation has deployed additional staff to monitor these locations and ensure compliance with solid waste management rules. "We have cleared over 50 such spots in Dharwad during the past one week. Fines are being collected on the spot to discourage people from dumping garbage," said a senior HDMC official.
Impact on Cleanliness and Public Awareness
The special drive is part of a broader effort to improve sanitation and waste management in the twin cities. HDMC has urged citizens to use designated waste collection points and segregate waste at source. The corporation is also conducting awareness campaigns alongside the enforcement actions. Officials warned that repeat offenders could face higher penalties or legal action under the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act.
