Garhwa Police Seize Rs 1 Crore Liquor Consignment

In a significant crackdown on interstate liquor smuggling, the Garhwa district police have seized a massive consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) valued at more than one crore rupees. The operation was conducted on Wednesday night at a hotel situated along the National Highway 39.

Major Haul from Highway Hotel

The police action took place within the limits of the Meral police station. Acting on specific intelligence, a police team raided the hotel and discovered the huge stock of illicit English wine. According to officials, the consignment was in transit, destined for the state of Bihar from Uttar Pradesh.

The seized items included a staggering 25,440 bottles of English wine, which were systematically packed into 1,080 cartons. The estimated market value of this haul exceeds one crore rupees, marking it as a major interception by the district police force.

Driver Arrested, Interrogation Underway

Following the seizure, the police arrested the driver of the container vehicle used for transportation. The arrested individual has been identified as Ganpat Ram, a 25-year-old resident of Barmer district in Rajasthan.

Authorities are currently interrogating Ganpat Ram to uncover the broader network and the key players involved in this smuggling racket. The focus of the investigation is to trace the origins of the consignment, its intended recipients in Bihar, and the entire supply chain facilitating such illegal trade.

Ongoing Investigation and Official Statement

Garhwa Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chiranjiv Kumar confirmed the details of the case and stated that a further investigation is actively in progress. The police are delving deeper into the modus operandi to dismantle the network that operates across state borders.

This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Jharkhand, particularly in border districts like Garhwa, to curb the illegal flow of alcohol. Such operations are crucial in enforcing state excise policies and preventing revenue loss.
