Police in Gaya are actively investigating a case of alleged extortion threats made against the wife of a prominent neurosurgeon, even as the local medical association has expressed no prior knowledge of the incident.
IMA Unaware, Police Pursue Digital Trail
Dr Ashok Kumar, president of the Gaya chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), stated that the affected doctor, Dr Satendra Kumar, had not approached the medical fraternity for help. Dr Ashok Kumar said he learned about the serious allegations only through newspaper reports.
In contrast, the local police are pursuing multiple leads. SHO Krishna Kumar of the Medical College police station confirmed that a coordinated effort with the district's cyber cell is underway to uncover the truth. He expressed optimism about an early breakthrough but declined to share specifics of the ongoing investigation.
Scrutiny of Call Records and Timeline Questions
Investigative sources revealed that to verify the claims in the First Information Report (FIR), police are examining the call detail records of several individuals. This list includes Dr Satendra Kumar, his wife Vibha Kumari, a woman pharmacist, stakeholders of a property in Gaya's Gewalbigha locality, and various family members and friends of the couple.
Two aspects of the case have drawn particular attention from investigators. The first alleged extortion call was received on December 27, but the formal police complaint was lodged only ten days later, raising questions about the delay.
Doctor Seeks Justice, Withholds Details on Wife's Statement
When asked about his satisfaction with the probe's progress, Dr Satendra Kumar, professor and head of the neurosurgery department at Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH), emphasized that his personal feelings were irrelevant. "The only important thing was that the culprit should be brought to book," he stated.
He confirmed that his wife's statement had been recorded by the police. However, Dr Kumar refused to answer whether his wife's account supported the contents of the complaint he had filed, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding investigation.
