Police in Ghaziabad have taken into custody the leader of a fringe organization along with an associate for their alleged involvement in a brazen campaign to distribute swords and other sharp weapons to the public from a local kiosk. The incident, which triggered panic in a residential neighborhood, occurred on December 30 in the Shalimar Garden area.
Weapons Handed Out to Passers-by and Homes
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (trans-Hindon) Nimish Patil, the group did not limit its activities to the kiosk. Members actively approached passers-by and even went door-to-door in the vicinity, ultimately handing out nearly 250 swords. The DCP stated that the sight of individuals carrying swords created significant fear and unrest among local residents.
Police Action and Legal Charges
The operation unraveled when a police team arrived at the scene. Upon spotting the officers, the members of the outfit reportedly fled the area on motorcycles. Law enforcement subsequently registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Shalimar Garden police station.
The FIR names the arrested leader, Pinky Chaudhary, and 45 other members of the organization. They face serious charges under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 191(2) for rioting
- Section 191(3) for rioting armed with a deadly weapon
- Section 127 for wrongful confinement
Additionally, charges have been invoked under Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1932.
Motivation and Criminal History
Investigations revealed that the group attempted to justify its alarming actions by pointing to increasing violence in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, police records indicate that the arrested leader, Pinky Chaudhary, is a familiar figure to law enforcement. He is reportedly implicated in approximately 25 other criminal cases filed across various police stations in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).
This arrest highlights ongoing concerns regarding the activities of fringe groups and the illegal distribution of weapons in urban areas, prompting a firm response from Ghaziabad police.
