A routine check for a residential society sticker at a housing complex in Ghaziabad turned into a scene of alleged abduction and brutal violence, police stated. The incident, which underscores recurring tensions over access rules in gated communities, occurred at the GH7 society in Crossings Republik.
The Confrontation Over Mandatory Sticker
The chain of events began on December 20, when security guard Saurabh was stationed at Gate 2 of the society. According to his formal complaint, the trouble had its roots in an argument from the previous day. Saurabh had stopped two residents from using that particular gate because their vehicle lacked the mandatory permit sticker issued by the apartment complex's Residents' Welfare Association (RWA).
This enforcement of a common society rule, however, allegedly led to a violent retaliation. On Sunday, a black Scorpio vehicle arrived at the same gate. A group of men emerged from the SUV, reportedly armed with sticks and iron rods, and launched a direct attack on the guard.
Violent Assault and Abduction Allegations
Saurabh claimed to the police that he was beaten at the spot, then forcibly dragged into the Scorpio, where the assault continued inside the vehicle. He further alleged that his attackers issued death threats, warning him never to stop or question them again in the future. Notably, Saurabh informed the police that the Scorpio bore a political party flag.
CCTV footage from the society, which has since gone viral on social media platforms, corroborates parts of the guard's account. The video shows three to four men slapping the guard and pushing him against a wall near the society's gate. One individual is clearly visible holding a long stick as the group continues to shove and strike Saurabh before the recording cuts off.
Police Investigation and Broader Pattern
A senior police officer confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway. "We are scanning all available CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the accused," the officer said. Following the complaint, a formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This is not an isolated incident in the National Capital Region (NCR). Clashes between security personnel and residents over access control and sticker rules are frequently reported from various gated societies. In a similar case from April this year, two guards were assaulted at Amrapali Leisure Valley in Greater Noida West after they stopped a vehicle without a society-issued sticker. The accused in that earlier incident were subsequently arrested.
The Ghaziabad attack has brought the issue of security personnel's safety and the enforcement of community rules back into sharp focus, raising questions about the challenges faced by those tasked with maintaining order in residential complexes.
