Ghaziabad Market Fire: 20 Shops Gutted, Second Blaze Hits Nearby Flat
A devastating fire erupted at Tyagi Market near the Crossings Republic roundabout in Ghaziabad, leaving approximately 20 shops completely gutted. The blaze, which originated from a gas leak at a restaurant within the market, caused significant damage to temporary structures constructed with tin sheds. As firefighters battled the flames, a separate fire broke out at a flat located just 400 meters away, believed to have been caused by a short circuit. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in either of these alarming incidents.
Firefighting Efforts and Initial Response
Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal stated that the Kotwali fire station received an alert about the market fire around 11:10 AM. Initially, two firefighting units were dispatched to the scene. However, upon assessing the severity of the situation, additional fire tenders were quickly mobilized from Vaishali, Kotwali, Sahibabad, and GB Nagar stations. Firefighters strategically formed two lines around the inferno to effectively contain and extinguish the flames.
Second Fire Incident at Ajnara Gen-X Society
While efforts to control the market fire were ongoing, another emergency was reported at a flat on the 20th floor of the nearby Ajnara Gen-X society. Two fire tenders were immediately sent to address this second blaze. CFO Pal personally visited the flat from the market site, and within an hour, the situation was brought under control. The fire was confined to one room, damaging three air conditioners, two tables, one LED TV, and the walls. Although a short circuit is suspected as the cause, an investigation is currently underway to determine the exact origin.
Damage Assessment and Swift Action
After managing the flat fire, Pal returned to the market, where firefighting operations continued for approximately three hours before the blaze was fully controlled. The fire unit's prompt response not only tackled the primary incident but also prevented the spread to adjacent establishments, including a Model Wine Shop and an IGL CNG pump. This swift action helped avert potential casualties and further property loss.
Key Points from the Incidents:
- Market Fire Cause: Gas leak at a restaurant.
- Flat Fire Cause: Suspected short circuit, under investigation.
- Casualties: None reported in both incidents.
- Response Time: Initial alert at 11:10 AM, with rapid escalation of resources.
