Massive Traffic Enforcement Drive in Golaghat Ahead of Republic Day

In a significant pre-emptive operation conducted ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, the Golaghat district police in Assam launched an extensive traffic enforcement drive on Friday. The comprehensive exercise aimed at bolstering road safety across the district resulted in the checking of a substantial 1,786 vehicles, with authorities detecting a staggering 659 traffic violations. Additionally, seven road accidents were reported throughout the day, underscoring the critical need for such safety initiatives.

Widespread Deployment and Alarming Violation Trends

The enforcement drive, strategically organized to ensure safer roads during the festive period, witnessed police personnel being deployed at multiple checkpoints spanning the entire Golaghat district. The operation revealed deeply concerning trends in traffic rule non-compliance, with a majority of offenders neglecting fundamental safety protocols that are essential for preventing accidents and saving lives.

According to the detailed data released by the district police administration, the most prevalent violation involved riders traveling without helmets, which accounted for a massive 498 cases. This was followed by 121 motorists found driving without using seatbelts, a basic yet crucial safety measure. The drive also identified 24 instances of triple riding on two-wheelers, a dangerous practice that significantly increases accident risks.

Other Serious Offenses Detected

Beyond the primary violations, the enforcement action uncovered several other serious offenses. These included five cases of drink driving, seven vehicles operating with illegally modified silencers, three vehicles fitted with prohibited tinted glasses, and one instance of wrong-side driving. Each of these violations poses substantial threats to road safety and public order.

District-Wide Operation Across Police Stations

The traffic enforcement operation was executed comprehensively across all 21 police stations and outposts within the Golaghat district. The Golaghat Police Station spearheaded the efforts by checking 235 vehicles, making it the most active unit. It was closely followed by Jamuguri Police Station with 175 vehicle checks and Bokakhat Police Station with 147 checks.

Other police stations that conducted extensive checking operations included Sarupathar PS, Dakhin Majuli PS, Chungajan PS, Dergaon PS, Numaligarh Rural PS, Barpathar PS, and Kamargaon PS. This district-wide coverage ensured that no area was left unchecked, maximizing the impact of the safety drive.

Police Leadership Emphasizes Safety and Public Cooperation

Golaghat Senior Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh highlighted the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations. "We have conducted this extensive checking operation to ensure the safety of motorists and road users. The number of violations detected is deeply concerning, particularly the high number of helmet and seatbelt violations, which are fundamental safety measures," Singh stated.

"I strongly appeal to all citizens to follow traffic rules diligently throughout the year. Your safety and the safety of others on the road depends on responsible driving behaviour," he added, making a heartfelt plea for consistent compliance.

The SSP further emphasized the necessity of public cooperation in maintaining road discipline. "Traffic rules are not meant to inconvenience anyone; they are designed to save lives. We urge vehicle owners and drivers to understand that violations can lead to serious accidents and loss of life," he remarked, reinforcing the life-saving purpose behind traffic regulations.

Legal Actions and Future Enforcement Plans

Fines were imposed on all violators in strict accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The district police have clearly indicated that such enforcement operations will continue in the coming days to sustain road safety and discipline. This ongoing vigilance is part of a broader strategy to cultivate a culture of responsible driving and reduce accident rates in the region.
