Groom, Uncle Held for Serving Beef at Wedding in UP's Kairana

MEERUT: A groom and his maternal uncle were arrested for allegedly serving beef at a walima reception in Kairana town of Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police confirmed on Friday.

Arrests Under Cow Slaughter Act

Additional Superintendent of Police Sumit Shukla stated that the groom, Farman, his uncle Salman, and banquet hall owner Anees have been booked under the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, as reported by news agency PTI.

Details of the Incident

According to police, Farman got married on June 16 and hosted a walima ceremony at Mughal Banquet Hall on June 18, where beef was allegedly served to guests. The meat was reportedly transported in an SUV that had been gifted during the wedding. The vehicle was seized along with the suspected meat.

A case has been registered against the accused, and efforts are underway to trace others allegedly involved in the incident, police added.
