Bhiwani: The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a patwari posted in Bhiwani district while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a farmer in connection with crop compensation claims.
The accused, identified as Harsh, was posted in the Gujrani area.
According to ACB officials, complainant Manjeet, a resident of Gujrani village, alleged that the patwari had sought money for facilitating compensation related to crop losses. The complaint stated that compensation of Rs 35,000 for crop damage in 2022 had been credited to the bank account of the complainant's father and that the accused had allegedly demanded a share of the amount.
The complainant further alleged that after fresh crop damage was reported on the government portal in 2025, the patwari again demanded money to process the claim. Initially, the accused allegedly sought Rs 15,000, but the amount was later reduced to Rs 10,000.
After verifying the complaint, the ACB laid a trap under the supervision of a duty magistrate and allegedly caught the accused red-handed while accepting the money on the road connecting Gujrani Chowk and Gujrani village. ACB officials said a case had been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation was underway.
Bhiwani ACB in-charge Jagjeet Singh said the bureau remained committed to a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and urged citizens to report any public servant demanding illegal gratification for official work.
