Kalaburagi Jail Scandal: High-Level Probe Launched Over Gambling, Bribery Allegations
High-Level Probe into Kalaburagi Prison Illegal Activities

A major scandal has rocked the Kalaburagi Central Prison, prompting the launch of a high-level investigation into a series of serious allegations, including illegal gambling, bribery, and inmates allegedly living a lavish lifestyle. The director general (DG) of prisons and correctional services, Alok Kumar, is scheduled to personally visit the facility on January 3 to assess the situation firsthand.

Serious Allegations Prompt Swift Action

The investigation was initiated in response to shocking claims of misconduct within the prison walls. The allegations are multifaceted, involving illegal gambling activities among inmates, the consumption of alcohol and smoking on the premises, and serious bribery charges. These charges notably involve PSI scam accused RD Patil and the jail superintendent, Anita. The situation gained public attention after a viral video surfaced, purportedly showing inmates enjoying a high-end lifestyle behind bars.

Investigation Team Constituted Under AIG

To thoroughly probe these grave claims, a dedicated investigation team has been formed. The team is operating under the leadership of the additional inspector general of prisons and is headed by PV Anandreddy. Their mandate is to conduct a detailed inspection and inquiry to pinpoint and identify any officers or staff members who may be responsible for the reported wrongdoing. The team's findings will be crucial in determining the extent of the malpractice.

Viral Video and Key Prisoner Details

Officials examining the controversial viral video believe it is not a recent recording. Preliminary assessments suggest the footage is from two to three months ago. Adding context to the timeline, authorities confirmed that a prisoner named Munikrishna, alias Kappe, who was allegedly involved in the gambling activities and is based out of Bengaluru, was released from Kalaburagi jail on December 2. These factors collectively indicate that the video capturing the illicit activities is several weeks old.

The upcoming visit by DG Alok Kumar underscores the seriousness with which the prison department is treating these allegations. The outcomes of the investigation and the DG's inspection are awaited, as they are expected to lead to significant administrative and disciplinary actions to restore order and integrity at the Kalaburagi Central Prison.
