A day after a newly-wed couple was discovered dead at their home in Kukatpally, Hyderabad police are now investigating a possible homicide angle in the woman's death. Initially considered a case of suicide, the circumstances surrounding the death of Yerramalla Manjula, 27, have raised suspicions.
Balanagar ACP P Naresh Reddy stated that Yemjala Karthik, 28, was found dead by suicide, but the cause of his wife's death remains unclear. 'We suspect that the woman may not have died by suicide. We are examining the possibility that she could have been killed before the man took the extreme step. However, this will be confirmed only after forensic reports are out,' the ACP said.
Forensic Analysis Underway
Police have sent viscera samples to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to determine the exact cause of death. Officials added that multiple angles are being investigated. The ACP mentioned a minor quarrel related to food between the couple and family members prior to the incident, but clarified that no history of prior disputes or animosity has been established so far. 'The investigation is at a preliminary stage right now,' he said.
Challenges in Accessing Digital Evidence
Police reported difficulties in accessing the couple's mobile phones, which were password-protected. 'We are yet to retrieve call records and messages, which could help establish the sequence of events,' an official said. The retrieval of digital evidence is considered crucial to understanding the timeline and any potential motives.
Incident Details
On Saturday, the couple, who got married in March, were found dead at their residence after Karthik's brother, who lived in the same building, broke open the door when they did not respond. They were shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
A case was registered under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). 'If it is confirmed that the cause of her death is murder, only then we will alter the sections,' the official said. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
