Hyderabad Doctor Alleges Caste Harassment by Surgeons

Hyderabad: A 54-year-old anaesthesiologist has lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police, alleging caste-based harassment, defamation, and intimidation by two prominent orthopaedic surgeons in the city. The complainant, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community and runs a pain management clinic in Jubilee Hills, alleged that the two surgeons, employed at different hospitals, had been circulating false and defamatory content against him on social media, branding him a “cheat” and a “fraud.”

According to the complaint, the alleged campaign severely tarnished his professional reputation, resulted in a loss of patients, and provoked members of the public to confront and even physically attack him at his clinic. He further alleged that the two surgeons initiated proceedings against him before the Telangana Medical Council on the basis of false accusations.

Based on the complaint, Jubilee Hills police registered a case against the two surgeons on Thursday evening under provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), read with section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said further investigation is under way.
