In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police has successfully dismantled an inter-state auto theft racket, arresting ten individuals involved in the illegal operation. The arrests were made after a coordinated effort by the police's Crime Branch, which led to the recovery of dozens of stolen vehicles from various states across northern India.
Operation Details
The police acted on a tip-off regarding a gang that specialized in stealing high-end vehicles from Delhi-NCR and transporting them to other states for sale. The suspects were apprehended from multiple locations in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered 15 cars, including luxury SUVs and sedans, along with several motorcycles and scooters.
Modus Operandi
According to police officials, the gang would target vehicles parked in isolated areas, shopping malls, and residential colonies. They used advanced tools to bypass security systems and would alter the vehicle identification numbers (VINs) before selling them to unsuspecting buyers in other states. The gang had a well-organized network of dealers and middlemen who facilitated the sale of stolen vehicles.
Recoveries and Legal Action
In addition to the vehicles, the police seized fake registration plates, tools used for stealing cars, and mobile phones containing evidence of the illegal transactions. The arrested individuals have been identified as residents of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigations are underway to trace more stolen vehicles and identify other members of the racket.
Police Statement
A senior police officer stated, "This operation is a significant step towards curbing vehicle theft in the national capital region. We urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. We also advise vehicle owners to install GPS trackers and anti-theft devices to prevent such incidents."
Public Advisory
The Delhi Police has advised the public to park their vehicles in well-lit areas, use steering locks, and avoid leaving valuables inside the car. They also recommend verifying the credentials of any second-hand vehicle dealer before making a purchase.
