JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has terminated an official from the Power Development Department (PDD) for his alleged involvement in terror activities. The accused, Mohammad Shafi Malik (51), is the ninth government employee in the Union Territory to be dismissed from service this year.
Crackdown Intensifies
Five government staffers were terminated in January, and three more were sacked in March. Since 2020, the UT administration has dismissed around 90 government employees over their alleged links with terrorist outfits.
Details of the Accused
Malik, a resident of Arwani village in Bijbehara, south Kashmir's Anantnag district, was posted as a PDD inspector at Hassanpora-Tawella. He was named in three First Information Reports (FIRs) registered at Bijbehara Police Station between 2017 and 2018 under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and the Arms Act.
Charges against him included murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, voluntarily causing hurt, harbouring an offender, mischief causing damage, voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant, wrongful restraint, and attempt to murder, officials said.
Ongoing Operations
The latest dismissal is part of the J&K administration's ongoing crackdown on terror infrastructure, including overground workers and sympathisers embedded within government institutions in the Union Territory.
