Kaithal Police Intensify Crackdown on Nandu Gang with Fresh Arrests
In a significant development in the fight against organized crime, the Kaithal police have apprehended two additional individuals connected to the notorious Nandu gang. This latest operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks operating across multiple states.
Details of the Arrests and Accused Identities
The arrests were carried out by a specialized team from the Special Detective Unit (SDU). The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Rohit, also known as Bholar, a resident of Kakot village in Kaithal district, and Lokesh, hailing from Pega village in Jind district. Both suspects are now in judicial custody following their court appearance on Sunday.
Background of the Nandu Gang's Criminal Activities
Preliminary investigations reveal that the Nandu gang has been deeply entrenched in a range of organized criminal enterprises. Their illicit operations span across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab, involving serious offenses such as:
- Extortion and intimidation tactics
- Contract killings for hire
- Illegal land grabbing schemes
- Supply and distribution of unlicensed firearms
This gang, led by Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu and his associate Sahil, has established a formidable presence in the region, posing a significant threat to public safety.
Previous Arrests and Seizures in the Case
These latest arrests build upon a series of police actions initiated earlier. On Friday, authorities detained three other members of the same gang:
- Karan alias Ankush – from Naina village in Kaithal district
- Saurabh alias Baba – also from Naina village
- Sumit alias Simmi – from Jalmana village in Karnal district
During searches conducted at the time of these arrests, police recovered substantial evidence, including:
- Two country-made pistols and eleven live cartridges from Karan and Saurabh
- Two magazines and four live cartridges from Sumit
- Three mobile phones and a motorcycle, believed to be used in criminal activities
Following their apprehension, Karan and Sumit were placed under a five-day police remand for further interrogation, while Saurabh was sent to judicial custody.
Interrogation Revelations and Gang Operations
During questioning, the accused provided critical insights into the gang's modus operandi. They confessed to acting on direct orders from gang leader Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu and his associate Sahil. Their primary responsibilities included:
- Collecting weapons from other gang members
- Facilitating the delivery of these arms after crimes were executed
Further interrogation revealed that Lokesh played a pivotal role in recruiting Karan into the gang by introducing him to Sahil. He was also actively involved in procuring illegal weapons and arranging shooters for the gang's operations.
In a disturbing revelation, Rohit was allegedly recruited by Karan as a shooter for a planned crime in Delhi, with a contract worth Rs 4 lakh. This highlights the gang's involvement in high-stakes criminal endeavors.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The police spokesperson confirmed that the arrests of Lokesh and Rohit were made based on information extracted from Karan and Sumit during their remand period. Both new accused were produced before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody, as the investigation continues to unfold.
This coordinated crackdown by the Kaithal police marks a significant step in curbing the influence of the Nandu gang. Authorities remain vigilant, with efforts focused on dismantling the entire network and bringing all involved to justice. The case underscores the challenges of combating organized crime in the region and the relentless pursuit of law enforcement to ensure public security.
