Kalaburagi Police Crack Down on Burglaries with Major Arrests and Seizures

In a significant breakthrough, the Kalaburagi city police have successfully apprehended two thieves involved in separate burglary cases, leading to the recovery of gold jewellery and cash valued at approximately Rs 16.2 lakh. The arrests were made by the Station Bazar police on Tuesday, as confirmed by Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Sharanappa SD during a media briefing.

First Case: Burglary at PWD Quarters

The first arrest involved Sagar Singh Taka, a 19-year-old resident of Panchsheel Nagar in Kalaburagi. He was taken into custody in connection with a burglary that occurred at a house in the PWD quarters. Following a thorough investigation, police seized a substantial amount of stolen property from him.

The recovered items include:

  • A 10-gram gold ring worth Rs 1.6 lakh
  • A 2.5-gram gold bangle valued at Rs 40,000
  • A 12.4-gram gold locket estimated at Rs 2 lakh
  • A 6-gram gold jeeramani (a type of necklace) worth Rs 96,000
  • An 8-gram gold boramala (another necklace style) close to Rs 1.3 lakh
  • Cash amounting to Rs 2 lakh, which was obtained from selling some of the gold

In total, the seizure from this case alone amounted to Rs 8.2 lakh, highlighting the scale of the theft.

Second Case: Watchman Turned Thief in Indira Nagar

In a separate incident, police arrested Basavaraja Erappa Biradar, a 38-year-old from Sadlapur village in Humanabad taluk, Bidar district. Biradar, who worked as a watchman, was implicated in a burglary at the residence of Sanjay Singh in Indira Nagar, Kalaburagi city. From him, authorities recovered gold ornaments and cash with a combined worth of Rs 8 lakh, bringing the total seizure across both cases to Rs 16.2 lakh.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The investigation was led by a dedicated team of officers, including DCP Praveen H Nayak, South Sub-Division ACP Sharanbasappa Subedar, and Station Bazar Police Station PI Gurulingappa Gowda Patil. They were assisted by personnel such as Prabhakara, Siraj Patel, Shivalinga, Yallappa, Sanganna, and Mosin. Their efforts culminated in the arrests, and the two thieves have since been handed over to judicial custody, as stated by Police Commissioner Sharanappa SD.

This crackdown underscores the Kalaburagi police's commitment to combating property crimes and ensuring public safety in the region.
