A disturbing case of molestation and attempted rape has emerged from Kanpur Dehat's Devrahat area, where a woman was allegedly lured to an ashram under the pretext of worship. Police have registered a case against ten individuals, including the ashram's baba, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend them.
Incident Details
The FIR was lodged at Devrahat police station against ten persons, including the baba of the ashram located at Chain Ka Purwa. The charges include molestation, attempted rape, and trafficking. The victim, a 28-year-old woman from Auraiya's Phaphund area, filed a complaint detailing the events. She stated that her husband works in Kota, Rajasthan, and she lives in a rented house in town with her young son.
Sequence of Events
On June 5, the woman's father-in-law called her, asking her to return home as the Maharaj was visiting for a worship ceremony. She was encouraged to participate. The next day, five individuals, including the alleged Maharaj Hariom Yadav and Kundan Deepak, arrived and conducted the worship. They invited her to the ashram to offer prasad before leaving.
On June 15, the woman went to Haridham Chain Ka Purwa accompanied by her two brothers-in-law. At the ashram, the accused baba Hariom took her to a separate room under the pretense of worship. There, he allegedly molested and attempted to rape her. She further alleged that Hariom, Kundan, Deepak, Ramveer, Sukhveer, and five others assaulted her and choked her. She managed to escape from the scene.
Police Action
Devrahat station house officer Saurabh Rana confirmed that an FIR has been filed against ten individuals, including five named suspects. All accused are currently being sought by the police. Investigation is ongoing.
