Kanpur: The murder case of 28-year-old Golu Singh in Maharajpur, Kanpur, took a significant turn on Friday. Family members, along with workers from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, kept the body at their residence, insisting on the arrest of the suspects.
Following assurances from police officials regarding action within a 24-hour timeframe, the family consented to proceed with performing the last rites at Dyodhi Ghat in presence of police on Friday.
The family members have issued a warning that if the suspects are not apprehended within the stipulated time, they will organize a sit-in protest outside the police station. In the meantime, VHP leaders visited the victim’s family, demanding that the police take stringent measures against the accused and demolish their residence. The organization has stated that their efforts will persist until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The discovery of the young man’s body on the roadside near JK Dhaba on Wednesday morning caused a stir in the locality. On Thursday, he was identified as Golu Singh, a resident of Hathipur village. The post-mortem report revealed a severe head injury and a fractured skull. The family members claimed that Golu, a DCM driver, owed approximately 5,000 rupees by certain youths, leading to a dispute over the repayment, during which he was threatened with death.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad district president Anand Singh visited the victim’s family, accompanied by workers, and stated that the suspects should be swiftly apprehended and face strict consequences. The deceased’s mother, Prema Devi, wife, Lakshmi, and brother, Kuldeep, also called for justice, insisting that the offenders be punished.
ACP (Chakeri) Ashutosh Singh assured the family that measures would be taken to arrest the suspects and incarcerate them within 24 hours. DCP (East) Satyajit Gupta confirmed that a case has been filed against three named suspects under serious charges, including murder, and that several individuals are currently being interrogated by police teams.
