A devastating road accident in Kanpur on Sunday afternoon snuffed out two lives and left a family shattered. A head-on collision between a motorcycle and a mini truck near the Kaitha intersection on Mughal Road resulted in the immediate deaths of a mother and her young son.
The Tragic Incident on Mughal Road
The fatal crash occurred in the Sajeti police area of Ghatampur. According to details, Arpit (17) was riding a motorcycle with his mother Anita (45) and his aunt Akanksha (30) as pillion riders. Their journey took a tragic turn when a mini truck collided with their bike head-on near the Kaitha intersection. The impact of the collision was so severe that Arpit and Anita died on the spot.
It was noted that the young rider, Arpit, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which led to critical head injuries. The third victim, Akanksha, who is Anita's sister-in-law, sustained injuries and was rushed to LLR Hospital in Kanpur for urgent medical treatment. Following the incident, local authorities pursued and managed to apprehend the mini truck involved after a chase.
A Family's Journey Turns Sorrowful
The family, residents of Shulpur village, was already grieving a separate loss. Satyendra, a farmer and the head of the family, lived with his wife Anita, son Arpit, and daughters Shraddha and Sapna. The family had recently lost Satyendra's niece, Supriya, who passed away after childbirth in Harbaspur just a day before, on Saturday.
On Sunday, Arpit had taken his mother Anita and aunt Akanksha on his bike to visit Jhanda Baba to pay their respects following the family tragedy. In a heartbreaking coincidence, another family member, Satyam (17), Satyendra's nephew, was traveling on a separate motorcycle nearby with his mother Shashi at the moment the accident occurred, witnessing the horrifying scene.
Aftermath and Investigation
Police officials from the Sajeti police station swiftly reached the accident site. The bodies of the deceased were taken for a post-mortem examination as part of the standard procedure. The authorities have registered a case and are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the collision on Mughal Road.
This tragic event highlights the persistent issue of road safety in the region, especially concerning two-wheeler riders. The absence of a helmet proved fatal for the young victim, underscoring the critical importance of following basic traffic safety rules. The local community in Ghatampur and Shulpur village has been plunged into mourning following the double tragedy that befell the family within a span of two days.
