A shocking incident of patricide has rocked the quiet village of Kandalloor in Alappuzha district, where a 29-year-old lawyer allegedly murdered his father and inflicted serious injuries on his mother following a heated argument.
Gruesome Attack in the Family Home
The tragic event unfolded on Sunday night around 9 pm at the family's residence in Peedikathara, Kandaloor South, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kanakakunnu Police station. The accused, identified as Navjith (29), son of Natarajan, is a practicing lawyer enrolled with the Mavelikkara Bar Association.
According to preliminary reports, Navjith, who lived with his parents, returned home and engaged in a fierce argument with his father, Natarajan. The dispute escalated rapidly, culminating in Navjith attacking his father with a knife. When his mother, Sindhu, attempted to intervene and stop the assault, the accused turned on her as well, attempting to attack her with the same weapon.
Timely Police Intervention and Arrest
Alerted by the sounds of the commotion, concerned neighbours quickly alerted the police. Officers from the Kanakakunnu police station arrived promptly at the scene. Finding the kitchen door locked from inside, they were forced to break it open to gain entry.
Inside, they found both parents critically injured. With the help of locals, the police immediately rushed Natarajan and Sindhu to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, Natarajan succumbed to his injuries. Sindhu is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvalla and is reported to be in a serious condition.
The police credit their timely intervention with saving Sindhu's life. Upon entering, the accused, Navjith, reportedly charged at the police officers with the knife. The police team managed to subdue him and placed him under arrest.
Motive and Investigation Details
Initial investigations by the police suggest that Navjith harboured deep-seated resentment towards his parents. A primary line of inquiry indicates that this resentment may have stemmed from his parents sending him to Coimbatore to take the bar exam.
It was also revealed that Navjith's wife was not present at the house during the incident. She was at her family home for childbirth. The couple had gotten married just last year.
Following his arrest, Navjith was presented before the Mavelikkara Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-I on Monday. The police have intensified the probe and are gathering additional scientific evidence to build a strong case against the accused.
