Kadakkal police in Thiruvananthapuram district have arrested a 21-year-old man under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for the repeated sexual abuse of a seven-year-old girl over the past year. A second accused remains at large.
Arrest and Charges
The accused, identified as Sachu (21) and Alan (21), both residents of Kovoor, were booked under the Pocso Act. Police took Sachu into custody on Friday night, while Alan is evading arrest. The case came to light after a relative witnessed Sachu assaulting the child and immediately alerted Childline workers.
Details of the Abuse
According to the complaint, Sachu allegedly lured the minor girl to his house on multiple occasions over the past year by offering her sweets and other treats, and then sexually abused her. The abuse reportedly continued undetected for nearly a year until the relative’s intervention. Childline workers counselled the child, helping her open up about the ordeal. Based on her statement, police registered a case against Sachu.
Second Accused Identified
During the investigation, the child revealed that Alan had also abused her. Police subsequently registered a separate case against him. The probe has been intensified to trace Alan, who has been evading arrest since the case came to light, police said.
