Kochi Police Nab Kozhikode Man in Online Fraud Investigation

City police in Kochi made an arrest on Tuesday in connection with an online fraud complaint. The arrested individual is Delji, a native of Puthiyangadi in Kozhikode. Officers from the Infopark Police took him into custody from his residence. Police reports indicate that Delji worked as a fisherman.

Details of the Fraud Case

According to the police, their investigation revealed suspicious transactions involving large sums of money flowing through Delji's bank accounts. The complaint was filed by a resident of Kakkanad. This person alleged that unidentified individuals defrauded him of Rs 11.36 lakh in an online scheme during 2024.

Investigators suspect that Delji's account functioned as a mule account. Such accounts are often used to process money obtained through cyberfraud. Account owners may sell access to these accounts for a commission or as part of a deliberate conspiracy to commit fraud. A detailed probe into this case is currently ongoing.

Ernakulam Rural Police Invoke Kaapa Against Habitual Offender

In a separate law enforcement action, Ernakulam rural police invoked the Kerala Anti-social Activities Prevention Act (Kaapa) against a habitual offender. The individual, identified as Manu P, aged 27 and from Airapuram, has been placed in preventive detention. He was subsequently transferred to Viyyur central jail.

Background of the Kaapa Order

The order for preventive detention was issued by District Collector Priyanka G. This decision was based on a report submitted by Rural District Police Chief M Hemalatha. Police records show that Manu P was involved in numerous criminal cases. These offences include burglary, theft, and drug-related crimes across several police station jurisdictions.

The areas affected are Muvattupuzha, Kuruppampady, Kalady, Angamaly, Kodanad, and Perumbavoor. The specific incident that triggered the Kaapa invocation was a case registered by Muvattupuzha police. In October, Manu P allegedly broke into a used goods vehicle showroom located in Vazhapilly. He is accused of stealing batteries from vehicles that were kept there for sale.

The arrest was carried out by a dedicated police team. The team included Kunnathunad Police Inspector A L Abhilash. Sub-Inspectors M Abhijith and K V Nissar also participated. Assistant Sub-Inspector N P Anil Kumar was part of the operation. Senior Civil Police Officer K G Jineesh and Civil Police Officer Dhanya Murali completed the arresting team.
