Kolkata police probe gang hoarding govt relief materials

Kolkata: The Parnasree police have initiated a probe against a local gang for allegedly hoarding and misappropriating a large quantity of government relief materials meant for public distribution among the underprivileged.

The matter came to light on Monday after a plaint was lodged by Sourav Karmakar, a resident of Shyam Sundar Pally in Behala’s Sakuntala Park area. Acting on it, cops registered an FIR against two primary suspects, identified as Madhu alias Asit Pramanick and Bhola, alongside several of their unidentified associates.

According to police, the alleged misappropriation took place around 2.30 pm. The accused, operating in close collusion with each other, entered into a criminal conspiracy to intercept government-allocated relief supplies. Instead of distributing the essential goods to the needy and targeted beneficiaries, the syndicate allegedly diverted the consignment and illegally stacked the substantial inventory for personal gain.
