A late-night brawl inside a pub near Highland Park took a violent turn in the early hours of Thursday, June 18, when a disgruntled group allegedly stormed the Survey Park Women's Police Station, attempted to stop the Officer-in-Charge (OC), and assaulted on-duty police personnel. A lady constable sustained serious injuries after being kicked by one of the accused, while three other police officers were reportedly bitten during the altercation.
Incident Details
The incident unfolded around 2 am at the police station premises located in East Rajapur. According to police sources, the trouble began earlier that night with a dispute inside a bar near Highland Park. Police arrived at the scene, calmed the agitated groups, and instructed them to leave. A couple of hours later, a group consisting of two women and a man—who had previously left the pub—allegedly reached the police station and intercepted a senior police officer's vehicle on the road, demanding the immediate arrest of members from the opposing group.
When police advised them to maintain peace and provide proper evidence regarding the bar fight first, the group became furious and created a commotion, police alleged. The case was officially registered based on a written complaint filed by the 29-year-old Kolkata Police female constable, a resident of Dakshin Dinajpur currently posted at the station. In her complaint, she stated that she rushed outside upon hearing loud shouting. Despite repeated requests from the lady police personnel to calm down and leave peacefully, the visitors turned aggressive.
Attack on Police
The situation spiraled out of control when the group began attacking police with fists and blows. When the constable stepped forward to restrain them, the accused kicked her. In the ensuing melee, the attackers bit three other police personnel who tried to intervene.
Accused Named
Police have named three primary accused in the FIR: Aritra Ghosh (31) of Jadavpur; Moumita Naiya (31); and Arpita Dey (29), both residents of Chittaranjan Colony. They have been charged with voluntarily assaulting government servants to deter them from discharging their lawful duties, under common intention.
Investigation Underway
Cops confirmed that an inquiry is underway, and strict legal action is being taken against the accused for the unprecedented station-house attack.
