Kolkata Warehouse Collapse: Suvendu Adhikari Announces Rs 10 Lakh Ex Gratia for Victims' Kin

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the warehouse collapse in Kolkata. The incident occurred in the northern part of the city, leaving several trapped under debris. Rescue operations are underway.

Of the 20 injured, one is in critical condition and four are in serious condition, the chief minister informed. He visited the site and assured all necessary medical assistance to the injured. The government has also ordered a probe into the collapse.

Rescue Operations and Government Response

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are engaged in rescue efforts. The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained. Adhikari said strict action will be taken against those responsible for any negligence.

According to officials, the warehouse was an old structure. Local residents reported hearing a loud noise before the collapse. Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Compensation and Medical Aid

The chief minister announced that the state government will bear all treatment expenses of the injured. He also said that families of the deceased will receive the ex gratia amount within 24 hours. The opposition has demanded a thorough inquiry and compensation for all affected.
