Kozhikode City Police have intensified their crackdown in a distressing case involving the sexual assault of a teenage girl, apprehending two more individuals linked to the crime. This brings the total number of arrests to four, as investigators piece together a harrowing sequence of events that unfolded in the city last month.
Latest Arrests and Identification of Accused
The two latest individuals taken into custody have been identified as Mohammed Rais (18) and Mohammed Sami (19). Police reports confirm that both hail from the Kasaragod district. Their arrest follows the earlier apprehension of two other men, Mohammed Salih (45) and Shabeer Ali (41), who were arrested this past Monday in connection with the same incident.
Chronology of a Crime: How the Events Unfolded
The case revolves around a 16-year-old girl from Perinthalmanna. According to the police investigation, the minor left her home on December 20 following a dispute with her parents. The following day, on December 21, she met the newly arrested accused, Rais and Sami, at the popular Kozhikode beach.
The duo then took the girl to a flat in the city, which reportedly belongs to one of the two other accused arrested earlier. They offered her food and a place to stay. However, in a brutal turn of events, the girl was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted at the flat. The accused later dropped her back at Kozhikode beach late on December 22.
In a sinister attempt to buy her silence, the accused allegedly gave the survivor Rs 4,000 and instructed her not to reveal the assault to anyone.
Discovery and Police Action
The entire incident came to light when a women's police patrol team found the girl sitting alone at Kozhikode beach on Sunday. After engaging with her, the officers learned of the traumatic ordeal. The Vellayil Police station subsequently registered a formal case and launched a swift investigation, leading to the arrests.
The police are continuing their probe to uncover all details surrounding the assault and the roles of each accused. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting concerns over the safety of vulnerable youth.
