Anticipatory Bail Granted
The Karnataka High Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to Suma, the daughter of suspended Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) chairperson Shivashankarappa Sahukar, in connection with allegations of submitting a forged income certificate. The court’s decision came after Suma filed a petition seeking pre-arrest bail amid an ongoing investigation into the fraudulent document.
Allegations and Certificate Details
According to the prosecution, during the document verification process for a government position, Suma submitted an income and caste certificate dated March 4, 2020. The certificate stated that her family’s annual income was Rs 40,000, which was significantly lower than the actual earnings. Based on this claim, she sought reservation under the 3B category, which is reserved for economically weaker sections. Authorities later discovered that the certificate was fabricated, leading to a case being registered against her.
Background and Legal Proceedings
The case has drawn public attention due to the involvement of Shivashankarappa Sahukar, who was suspended as KPSC chairperson following multiple allegations of irregularities. Suma’s anticipatory bail plea was heard by a single-judge bench of the Karnataka High Court, which granted her relief subject to certain conditions. The court directed her to cooperate with the investigation and appear before the investigating officer as required.
