Buxar: The excise department foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of liquor concealed beneath crates of mangoes during a vehicle check at the Veer Kunwar Singh checkpost on Saturday.
Details of the Seizure
Excise superintendent Ashraf Jamal said a truck loaded with mangoes was stopped on suspicion. During inspection, officials found a layer of rotten mangoes on top, while cartons of foreign liquor were hidden underneath.
A total of 325 cartons of liquor of different brands, measuring 2,871.72 litres and valued at around Rs 34.46 lakh, were recovered. Officials said the consignment was being transported from Chandigarh to Muzaffarpur. The truck was seized and its driver arrested.
Driver Arrested
The driver, Ravi Kumar (27), a resident of Ram Sahar Nand village in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, was taken into custody. The raid was conducted under the supervision of Kundan Kumar, inspector-in-charge of Prohibition at the checkpost.
Jamal said an FIR has been registered under the Excise Act and further investigation is underway.
