The Lokayukta police in Karnataka's Ballari district have apprehended a surveyor from the Ballari Urban Development Authority (BUDA) while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh. The accused, identified as Mohammad Sajid, was caught red-handed during a trap laid by the anti-corruption agency.
Details of the Trap
According to sources, the Lokayukta received a complaint that the surveyor was demanding a bribe to process a land-related document. Acting on the tip-off, the police set up a sting operation. Sajid was caught at his office premises while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
Arrest and Investigation
The Lokayukta officials have registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and taken Sajid into custody. Further investigation is underway to determine if any other officials were involved in the corrupt practice.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Lokayukta to curb corruption in government departments, especially in urban development authorities where land dealings are often susceptible to bribery.
