Ballari: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Ballari Lokayukta police arrested a First Division Assistant (FDA) posted at the Siruguppa Tahsildar’s office and her son on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.1 lakh to convert land records from ‘Inam’ to ‘Patta’.
The Accused and the Trap
The accused have been identified as Suvarna, the FDA, and her son Deepak. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Govind, a resident of Bairapur village, who alleged that Suvarna demanded the bribe to process the conversion of his 7 acres and 68 cents of land. She instructed him to hand over the money to her son.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Lokayukta police laid a trap using chemically treated currency notes. They apprehended Deepak while he was allegedly accepting the money on his mother’s instructions. Subsequently, Suvarna was also taken into custody.
Legal Action and Investigation
The police registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against both accused. The tainted cash was seized, and the duo was taken into custody for further interrogation. The operation highlights the vigilance of the Lokayukta in combating corruption in government offices.
This incident serves as a warning to public officials involved in corrupt practices. The investigation is ongoing to uncover any other instances of bribery or misconduct.
