In a major push to ensure safety and order during the New Year's Eve celebrations, the Lucknow Traffic Police and City Police launched an extensive checking drive across the city. The operation, aimed at preventing accidents and maintaining public decorum, saw significant violations being addressed on the spot.
Major Focus on Helmet Compliance and Document Checks
The drive commenced at 3 PM at the busy Hazratganj intersection under the direct supervision of DCP (Traffic) Kamlesh Dixit. The primary objectives were clear: enforcing helmet use, verifying driving licenses and vehicle registration documents, and putting a stop to the dangerous practice of triple-riding on two-wheelers.
During the course of the operation, traffic officials intercepted a total of 112 two-wheelers. A startling revelation was that 50 women riders were found riding without helmets. Police officials noted that several women commuters tried to evade the checking points, while many others were carrying their helmets in their scooter's boot instead of wearing them for protection.
On-the-spot challans (fines) were issued to the violators, accompanied by stern warnings from the police. The officials emphasized the critical, life-saving importance of wearing a helmet while riding. Several male riders were also penalized for triple-riding and for not carrying valid vehicle documents.

Beyond routine traffic enforcement, the Lucknow Police deployed a multi-layered security apparatus to manage the year-end crowds. Plain-clothes officers, dog squads, and mobile checking teams were strategically positioned at key locations across the city.
