In a shocking crime that has sent shivers through Ludhiana, Punjab Police have arrested a local carpenter and his wife for the brutal murder and dismemberment of a 30-year-old man. The gruesome act is believed to have stemmed from a violent argument under the influence of drugs.
Grisly Discovery on Jalandhar Bypass
The case came to light on Thursday when the body of Davinder Singh, a digital printing professional based in Mumbai, was discovered. In a horrifying scene, his remains were found cut into six pieces and scattered near the Jalandhar Bypass in Ludhiana. The victim had arrived in the city by train on January 6 with the purpose of purchasing new machinery.
Drug-Fuelled Altercation Turns Deadly
According to police investigators, Davinder met his friend, Shamsher Singh Shera, shortly after his arrival in Ludhiana. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Sameer Verma stated that the two men consumed 'chitta', a local term for heroin, at Shamsher's house. While under the influence, a heated argument erupted between them over an unpaid debt.
"During the altercation, Shamsher pushed Davinder, which knocked him unconscious," ADCP Verma explained. The police official further revealed the accused's macabre assumption: "Believing the man was dead, Shamsher used a saw to dismember the body, a process that reportedly took him two-hours-and-a-half."
Arrests and Cleanup Allegations
On Friday, Punjab Police confirmed the apprehension of the primary accused, woodworker Shamsher Singh Shera, and his wife, Kuldeep Kaur. Kuldeep Kaur has been accused of joining her husband in the cleanup operation following the horrific crime. The arrests were made swiftly after the discovery of the dismembered body parts, with police piecing together the victim's last known movements and contacts.
The case highlights the devastating consequences of drug abuse and associated violence. It has also raised serious questions about the circumstances that led a man to dismember his friend, allegedly under the mistaken belief that he was already dead.
