Ludhiana Couple Jump into Canal to Escape Assault, Beaten

In a shocking incident in Ludhiana, a factory worker and his female friend jumped into the Neelon canal to escape an attack by her family, only to be pulled out and subjected to further beatings, police said.

Attack and Escape

Harmandeep Singh, 22, a resident of Chhandra village, was riding a motorcycle with Parminder Kaur when they were intercepted near the canal by a group of men. The attackers, identified as Deepi, Sukhi, Ravi of Katani Kalan village, and an unidentified accomplice, allegedly pounced on the man and chased him into the water after the woman.

Dragged Out and Assaulted

According to the Koom Kalan police, the attackers dragged the pair out of the canal and escalated the beating. They then forced the man into an autorickshaw and drove him to the Katani Kalan City Centre, where they continued the assault with iron rods.

Humiliation and Robbery

The suspects allegedly summoned and humiliated Harmandeep's mother before snatching his mobile phone. The police have charged the suspects under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and common intent in crime.

Investigation

Head Constable Jagdish Kumar, the investigating officer, said that the man and woman had been friends for several months. The police are investigating the case and have registered a first-information report.
