Police Nab Accused in Ludhiana Bike Snatching Case
In a significant breakthrough, the Division No. 4 police in Ludhiana have arrested one of the accused involved in a brazen armed robbery that took place last month. The police successfully recovered the motorcycle that was snatched from a 19-year-old resident at gunpoint in the Chhawani Mohalla area.
Details of the Armed Robbery
The incident occurred on December 2. The victim, 19-year-old Moksh Sidhu, was on his way to a petrol station in Chhawani Mohalla when his path was blocked by a Hyundai Verna car near Peer Di Dargah. Two men got out of the car; one brandished a gun while the other wielded a sharp-edged weapon. Under threat, they forcibly took his motorcycle and fled the scene. Moksh Sidhu promptly reported the crime to the police.
Acting on the complaint, a team led by Inspector Gurjeet Singh, SHO of Division No. 4 police station, launched an investigation. Through diligent probing, they identified and tracked down one of the perpetrators.
Arrest of a Repeat Offender
The arrested individual has been identified as Abhay Adiya, also known as Mathi, a resident of Chhawni Mohalla. The police investigation revealed a troubling pattern: Adiya is a known criminal with several FIRs already registered against him. He had been released on bail merely two months ago before allegedly returning to criminal activities.
Following his arrest, the police recovered the snatched motorcycle from his possession. However, the firearm used in the robbery has not been found yet. Officers are interrogating Adiya to locate the weapon and gather information about his accomplices.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
The police are actively searching for Adiya's associates, including one named Rajan Sidhu alias Nannu. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, including:
- Section 309(4) (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
- Section 3(5) (criminal act executed by common intention) of the BNS.
- Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act.
Inspector Gurjeet Singh emphasized that the police are making concerted efforts to track down the remaining accused. This case highlights the challenge of repeat offenders committing crimes shortly after being released on bail, putting public safety at risk in areas like Ludhiana's Chhawani Mohalla.
