Clash Erupts in Chaunta Village Over Drug Peddling Allegations
Two groups clashed in Chaunta village, Ludhiana, on Wednesday, July 9, 2026, following allegations of drug peddling. The dispute escalated into a violent confrontation, with the groups pelting each other with bricks and stones. The Koom Kalan police have registered a cross-case against 27 individuals and initiated a thorough investigation.
Chaunta village has been identified as a drug hotspot, with several residents allegedly involved in drug peddling activities. Sources indicated that police teams had recently conducted raids in the village in connection with a drug-related case. It is alleged that individuals whose houses were searched by the police attacked the other group, suspecting them of providing information to the authorities.
Counter-Allegations and Accused Named
The other party, however, claimed that false information had been provided to the police against them. They alleged that those who shared the information were themselves involved in drug peddling. The accused booked in the case have been identified as Jeetu, Sohan, Billa Member Panchayat, Meeti, Akki, Biro Kaur, Baljit, Jeeta, Ranjit, Pappu Singh, Dalvir Kaur, Pinky Kaur, Gaam Singh, Satnam Singh, Sonia Kaur, Bhola Singh, Mano Kaur, Duman Singh, Sunny, Lakha, Gurpreet Singh, Gora, Laddi Singh, Mithu Singh, Sattu, Arjan and Karan.
Investigating officer ASI Vijay Kumar stated that the police would verify the involvement of the accused in drug peddling and take further legal action accordingly. He added that raids were being conducted to trace the accused. The ASI said the preliminary investigation revealed that the clash stemmed from allegations of drug peddling between the two groups. Police have also obtained a video recording related to the incident.
Police Vow Strict Action
Koom Kalan SHO Inspector Madhu Bala said the accused would be questioned after being apprehended and their alleged links with drug trafficking would be investigated. “If anyone is found involved in drug peddling, strict action will be taken against them,” she said. The police are continuing their investigation, with a focus on curbing drug-related activities in the region.
