Maharashtra Policeman Murdered, Body Found Buried in Mud House

In a shocking incident from Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, a police constable who had been missing for two days was discovered murdered and buried near his own residence. The grim recovery was made on Sunday, sending ripples through the local community and the police force.

Body Unearthed from Fresh Mud Near Residence

The deceased has been identified as Nanasaheb Divekar, a resident of Balegaon village in Vaijapur taluka, who was serving at the Devgaon Rangari police station. Divekar is survived by his wife and a son. His unexplained absence from duty on Sunday morning prompted his family and colleagues to file a missing person's complaint.

However, police sources revealed that certain inconsistencies in the complaint lodged by Divekar's cousin raised immediate suspicion. This led investigators to intensify their verification of the victim's last known movements. A team from the Shivur police station subsequently visited Divekar's house to conduct a search of the surrounding area.

Assistant inspector Vaibhav Rankhamb stated that during the inspection, officers noticed signs of freshly disturbed soil near a mud house close to the victim's home. "When the spot was dug up, the body was found buried there," Rankhamb confirmed. The recovery indicated a clear attempt to conceal the body and destroy evidence.

Three Relatives Detained as Probe Points to Personal Motive

Senior police officials swiftly took charge of the investigation. Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Rathod announced that three suspects, all relatives of the deceased constable, have been detained. "So far, the probe indicates that he was murdered over suspicion of an illicit relationship," SP Rathod said, outlining the primary motive being explored by the authorities.

Preliminary findings suggest the murder was premeditated. Sources indicated that a sickle-like sharp weapon was used in the attack, with injuries found on the neck and face of the victim. After the recovery, a panchnama was conducted, and the body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Major Police Mobilisation Follows the Killing

The killing of a serving policeman in such brutal circumstances has caused a major stir within the police department. A large-scale investigation has been launched, with teams from the local police, the local crime branch, and a dog squad deployed to the scene to gather forensic evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events.

Senior officers, led by SP Vinay Kumar Rathod and Additional SP Annapurna Singh, have camped at the police station to oversee the probe directly. The incident underscores the grave personal risks law enforcement personnel can face, even from within their own circles. The investigation remains active as police work to build a solid case against the detained suspects.
