Man Arrested for Abducting Ex-Girlfriend at Knifepoint in Chennai

A 28-year-old man was arrested by Peerkankaranai police for abducting his ex-girlfriend at knifepoint from Perungalathur in a taxi. The woman was rescued after the alert taxi driver raised an alarm when he noticed police personnel on the road near the Maduravoyal toll plaza.

Background of the Relationship

Police said the 22-year-old woman from New Perungalathur worked at a private company in Kovilpatti, where she became acquainted with Nandakumar, a native of Virudhunagar district. Later, both moved to Chennai, where the woman joined a courier company in Vallakottai and Nandakumar worked at a private warehouse in Oragadam. Their friendship developed into a relationship, and they lived together in a rented house in Varadharajapuram in Kancheepuram district for 13 months before separating due to personal reasons.

Previous Incident

According to police, Nandakumar earlier assaulted the woman after calling her out of the hotel where she was staying on March 11. Based on her complaint, Peerkankaranai police arrested him and remanded him to judicial custody. He was released on bail in April.

The Abduction and Rescue

On Friday, when the woman was waiting in Perungalathur to go to work, Nandakumar arrived in a call taxi, forced her into the vehicle, and threatened her with a knife. The taxi driver became suspicious after witnessing the incident. As the vehicle approached the Maduravoyal toll plaza, the driver noticed police personnel stationed there, stopped the car, and raised an alarm. Police rushed to the spot, rescued the woman, and detained Nandakumar along with the knife used in the incident. Since the case fell under the jurisdiction of the Peerkankaranai police station, local police were informed and later took custody of the accused.

The timely alert by the taxi driver helped police rescue the woman and prevent further harm. Police registered a case, and further investigation was underway.
