Vadodara: A 24-year-old man was arrested by Vadodara rural police on Thursday for allegedly murdering a five-year-old girl in Shinor taluka. The accused had allegedly kidnapped the girl early on Monday morning when she was sleeping with her grandfather in the compound of her house.
Police said that he was walking away with the girl when she suddenly woke up. He then strangled her with a rope. "The accused kept her body in a huge plastic bag and then filled it with stones. He loaded the bag on his motorbike and drove down to the outskirts of his village," a cop said.
The accused then dumped her body into a canal and returned home. "The girl's family filed a missing person's complaint on June 15, after which a search was initiated. Our team began investigating whether the girl's family had problems with any person in the village," said Sushil Agrawal, DSP (rural), Vadodara.
The cops received a tip-off that the accused was known to the girl's mother. They then inquired about his background and whereabouts. Investigations revealed that he was involved in the kidnapping after which he was questioned. "The accused confessed to having kidnapped and murdered the girl. He led us to the spot where he had dumped the girl's body," Agrawal told TOI.
The cops recovered the victim's body and sent it for a postmortem. Asked about the reasons behind the murder, the accused told the cops that the girl's mother had stopped talking to him. "He kept trying to persuade her to speak to him, but she didn't budge. He then decided to kidnap her daughter to teach her a lesson," a cop said.
"We will get the complete details of the case once we receive the postmortem report," the cop said. The accused is unmarried and lives near the victim's house.
