Man arrested for raping 6-year-old in Porvorim

In a shocking incident from Goa, the Porvorim police have arrested a man for the alleged sexual assault and rape of a six-year-old girl. The accused was reportedly hired by the family to pick up and drop off the minor at her school.

Details of the Alleged Crime

According to Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab, the First Information Report (FIR) was registered based on a complaint filed by the girl's mother. The investigation revealed that prior to November 2025, the accused allegedly touched the private parts of the child at various locations in Porvorim. "Thereafter, he sexually abused/assaulted and raped her," stated PI Parab, adding that the man also assaulted and threatened the minor to silence her.

The young victim was taken for a medical examination at the Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim. The medical officer confirmed that the examination suggested evidence of sexual assault, corroborating the serious allegations.

Swift Police Action and Arrest

Acting promptly on the complaint, the Porvorim police traced and arrested the accused immediately. He was subsequently produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Mapusa. The court has remanded him to four days of police custody for further interrogation and investigation.

Community Outrage and Panchayat Intervention

The arrest did little to quell public anger. On Tuesday evening, a group of people gathered outside the house of the accused, demanding strict action. The agitated villagers insisted that his family should not be allowed to continue living in the village.

Police officials present at the spot informed the crowd that the accused was already in custody and assured them that further legal action would follow as per the law. A panchayat member (panch) who was present intervened, assuring the villagers that the local panchayat would look into the matter and address their concerns.

This distressing case highlights the vulnerability of children and has sent shockwaves through the Porvorim community, raising urgent questions about the safety protocols for school transportation and the protection of minors.
